Where do Japan's eggs come from?
Ads may run a shortened edit of this video. It is cut from the same footage, and the ad spend is recorded against this video either way.
This video supports Inside the Cage, a campaign by Animal Rights Center Japan.
Inside the Cage documents what egg farms in Japan are really like. Over roughly ten months, footage was recorded inside these farms, and the daily lives of hens living in cages are published every day.
About 98.5% of eggs in Japan are produced by hens kept in cages. Most of these hens spend their entire lives in cages too small to fully spread their wings. They cannot dustbathe or perch — behaviors that are natural to them. Foot deformities, feather damage, and suffering and death from heat have all been documented.
By making this reality widely known and pushing for a shift to cage-free housing, the campaign works toward a society where hens can live in conditions that take their welfare seriously.

Donations, ad spend, and people reached (cumulative)
Donations are spent on ads for this video on a rolling basis. The closer the two lines are, the more promptly donations are being turned into ad reach.
The bars show how many people that spending actually reached. Both axes are scaled by this campaign's measured cost (¥0.14 per person), so a bar rising above the "Spent on ads" line means the same money reached more people.
People reached is confirmed through 08-12. After that we have not imported results yet, so no bars are drawn. The dashed column on the right is the estimate for this donation — not a figure for a particular day, and it takes several days of ad delivery to get there.

Where your donation goes
What is it spent on?
Every yen given on this page — minus payment processing fees — pays to run this video as an ad. The money goes to the ad platforms themselves, such as X and YouTube. None of it goes to our staff or overhead. What we have actually spent, and how many people the video reached, are published on this page as it happens.
The Inside the Cage site also carries a general donation button for Animal Rights Center, which supports our work as a whole — investigations, rescue, and campaigning with companies. Donations made on this page are spent differently: on advertising this video and nothing else.
Why advertising?
Most eggs sold in Japan come from hens who spend their whole lives in cages too small to spread their wings. People cannot choose differently if they never learn this. Advertising is one of the few ways to reach people who are not already looking. The more people know, the more they change what they buy — and the harder it becomes for companies to stay with cages. That change is what your donation is buying.
